KUALA LUMPUR, August 9 — The Madani Medical Scheme has been expanded to 11 new districts, including four from this week, Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa announced yesterday.
The four new districts where the scheme – where the low-income can get fully subsidised treatment at private general practitioner (GP) clinics – has been implemented this week are Kota Setar and Kuala Muda in Kedah, as well as Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus in Terengganu.
The Madani Medical Scheme will be implemented in the other seven districts – Kota Bharu and Pasir Mas in Kelantan; Kuantan, Pahang; Melaka Tengah, Melaka; Seberang Perai Tengah, Penang; Seremban, Negeri Sembilan; and Perlis – from the fourth week of this month.
“The MOH (Ministry of Health) welcomes GPs in the involved districts to register as panel clinics under the Madani Medical Scheme starting today by visiting ProtectHealth’s website or by calling 03-8687 2525,” Dr Zaliha said in a statement yesterday.
The scheme – which was introduced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during the tabling of the Budget 2023 – is expected to benefit 700,000 households, with an allocation of RM100 million.
For the second half of this year, under the Madani Medical Scheme, each household with families is allotted up to RM250; up to RM125 for senior citizens without partners; and up to RM75 for singles.
Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) recipients are automatically eligible for the scheme.
They only need to bring their MyKad to panel clinics to receive free treatment for acute cases – consultations, examinations, medicine, procedures, and referrals – at participating GP clinics.
As of today, more than 700 GPs have registered as panel clinics under the Madani Medical Scheme.
The pilot phase of the Madani Medical Scheme – which was launched last June – covered 10 districts in Kuala Lumpur; Gombak, Hulu Langat, Klang, and Petaling (Selangor); Kinta (Perak); Timur Laut (Penang); Johor Bahru (Johor); Kota Kinabalu (Sabah); and Kuching (Sarawak).
