Dzulkefly, Yeo, Boon Chye Appointed To Parliament Health, Science Committee

Former ministers Dzulkefly Ahmad, Yeo Bee Yin, and Mohd Redzuan Yusof, as well as former deputy health minister Dr Lee Boon Chye, have been appointed to the Parliament special select committee on health, science and innovation.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 — Former ministers Dzulkefly Ahmad and Yeo Bee Yin have been appointed to the Parliament special select committee (PSC) on health, science and innovation.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun said in a letter to MPs yesterday that former health minister Dzulkefly’s appointment replaced Kuala Langat MP Dr Xavier Jayakumar (independent).

Besides Kuala Selangor MP Dzulkefly and former energy, science, technology, environment and climate change minister Yeo, who is also Bakri MP, the Speaker also appointed former deputy health minister Dr Lee Boon Chye, who is Gopeng MP, into the Dewan Rakyat committee.

Alor Gajah MP Mohd Redzuan Yusof (Bersatu), a former minister under the Muhyiddin Yassin administration, was appointed to replace Sipitang MP Yamani Hafez Musa.

This means the nine-member PSC on health, science and innovation, which is headed by Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii (DAP), has five members from the government — Mohd Redzuan, Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin, Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni, and Dungun MP Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli — and four Opposition lawmakers: Dr Yii, Dzulkefly (Amanah), Dr Lee (PKR), and Yeo (DAP).

The PSC on health, science and innovation is among the more active parliament special select committees, meeting every week to discuss various issues related to the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Unlike the United Kingdom, PSC proceedings in Malaysia are not broadcast and are considered secret.

Today is the last day of the current Dewan Rakyat meeting.
