Smile, But Don’t Lower Your Face Mask — MMA

Be sure to maintain the prescribed SOPs while we move forward in trying to coexist with the Covid-19 virus.

The recovery phase does bring relief to everyone, and it is hoped that apart from an improvement in economic health, we will also see an improvement in the mental health of our population.

And while we are starting to see smiles on many faces, there is the worry that many are letting their face masks down and exposing their mouths.

As our nation looks forward to the gradual opening up of the various sectors of the economy and the eventual opening of interstate borders, we see that many are also relaxing their initial maintenance of prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with regard to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) wishes to remind the public that while more restrictions are being relaxed as the nation transitions to an endemic phase, the SOPs are still important in preventing Covid-19 transmission.

Do not adopt a lackadaisical attitude when it comes to SOPs, as the pandemic is far from over. Be sure to maintain the prescribed SOPs while we move forward in trying to coexist with the Covid-19 virus in our midst.

Dr Koh Kar Chai is president of the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA).
