Khairy: Two-Thirds Of Klang Valley Elderly Vaccinated Against Covid-19

About 67% of people aged 60 and above in Selangor and KL have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine dose; 97% of elderly population there have registered for jabs.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — About 67 per cent of the population aged 60 and above in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine dose, based on statistics revealed by Khairy Jamaluddin today.

The vaccine minister also said the 524,062 vaccinated individuals comprised about 69 per cent of the 758,765 people aged 60 and above in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur who registered for coronavirus vaccination, as of June 23.

The 758,765 people aged 60 and older in the Klang Valley who registered for their coronavirus shots comprise 97 per cent of the 781,600 elderly population in the country’s most developed state and the capital city.

The 524,062 vaccinated individuals aged 60 and older comprised 344,180 in Selangor (64.7 per cent of elderly registered for jabs) and 179,882 in Kuala Lumpur (79.4 per cent of elderly registered for jabs).

When looking at the total population aged 60 and above in Selangor (575,800 people) and Kuala Lumpur (205,800 people), the elderly vaccination rate with at least one dose has reached about 60 per cent in Selangor and 87 per cent in Kuala Lumpur.

This equates to 67 per cent of the elderly population in both the state and capital city.

Khairy told the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia’s virtual 45th annual general meeting today that about 95 per cent of the population aged 60 and above in Kuala Lumpur, as well as about 86 per cent of elderly residents in Selangor, have either been vaccinated or will receive an appointment for their jabs over the next two weeks.

“Every time they register, they will go up the priority list. So senior citizens in Kuala Lumpur that have not registered, once we are finished with the senior citizens who are registered, they automatically get bumped up in the list when we roll out Phase Three for the general population, which we’ve already started in KL and Selangor,” he said.

The science, technology and innovation minister said 1,918,591 people aged 60 years and above nationwide have been vaccinated against Covid-19 with at least one dose as of June 23. This comprises more than half, or about 55 per cent, of the 3.5 million population aged 60 years and above in Malaysia.

Covid-19 vaccine registration by the elderly aged 60 and above has reached 79 per cent of the elderly population with about 2.76 million registered nationwide as of June 23, said Khairy.

About 3.9 million people with comorbidities have also registered for their coronavirus shots across Malaysia, as well as 294,403 people with disabilities and about 2 million dependents as of yesterday.

A total of 16,017,814 people nationwide have registered for their Covid-19 jabs as of June 23, comprising 65.2 per cent of about 23.4 million adults aged 18 and above.

The 16,017,814 vaccine registrations were made overwhelmingly on the MySejahtera mobile app with 14,781,662 registrations, followed by 1,225,609 registrations on the government’s website and 10,543 through call centres.
