With the alarming rise in daily Covid-19 cases recently, the Association of Malaysian Medical Industries (AMMI) is in full support of any actions necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of the Malaysian people.
In this regard, we recommend that the government institute a pragmatic approach, not amounting to the full lockdown as seen in last year’s first Movement Control Order (MCO), but to continue prioritising the balance between lives and livelihood for Malaysian.
AMMI also calls upon the government to ensure that the medical device manufacturing supply chain and service sector is able to operate at an optimal capacity in ensuring minimal disruptions to the Malaysian and regional health care sector.
As medical devices are essential components of health care facilities, it is paramount that the medical device manufacturing supply chain and service sector be given due consideration to continue operations under existing strict SOPs.
As for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), AMMI member companies will continue to encourage its employees to vaccinate themselves, and we hope the government will prioritise all stakeholders in the hospital ecosystem for vaccination, including clinical representatives and technicians within the medical device industry and other essential workers in the medical device manufacturing supply chain.
The medical devices and consumables produced by our members are essential equipment for all frontliners in health care facilities not only in Malaysia, but also in neighbouring countries and around the world, in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
AMMI believes that with a strong collaboration between the government and the private sector, we will be able to persevere through this crisis.
