Malaysia Notches Record High 6,075 New Covid-19 Cases

The three states and territory with the highest number of new infections are Selangor (2,251), Johor (699), and Kuala Lumpur (660).

KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — Malaysia today reported 6,075 new confirmed Covid-19 infections, the highest 24-hour tally throughout its epidemic.

The previous daily record high was reported on January 30 with 5,728 infections.

The 6,075 new coronavirus cases reported today according to states are as follows:

  • Selangor: 2,251
  • Johor: 699
  • Kuala Lumpur: 660
  • Kedah: 445
  • Kelantan: 441
  • Sarawak: 323
  • Perak: 220
  • Terengganu: 203
  • Negeri Sembilan: 189
  • Penang: 183
  • Sabah: 160
  • Pahang: 150
  • Melaka: 122
  • Labuan: 14
  • Putrajaya: 9
  • Perlis: 6

Malaysia now is facing a particularly brutal resurgence of the virus that has nearly filled up hospitals and low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC) across the country, with severe cases pushing intensive care unit beds to almost full capacity.

Total Covid-19 cases in Malaysia have now reached 485,496.
