Rapid KL Retracts Lifting Of Social Distancing Rules

Social distancing will continue in LRT, MRT and KL Monorail services, says Rapid Rail.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — Rapid Rail has decided to maintain social distancing rules in Rapid KL trains and stations, after a senior minister rebuked them for unilaterally lifting the guidelines.

The rail operator said it would follow the government’s decision to continue social distancing in LRT, MRT, and KL Monorail services tomorrow when the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) comes into effect, amid a drop of Covid-19 cases in the country.

“This policy will continue until the government makes a new decision,” Rapid Rail said in a statement issued immediately after Senior Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s press conference today.

Ismail Sabri asserted that Rapid Rail did not get approval from the government to end social distancing rules in its trains and stations from tomorrow, even though the rail operator had said the Transport Ministry was permitting 100 per cent capacity for all rail services, except for the ETS and KTM Intercity services.
