KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 — Grab CEO and co-founder Anthony Tan shaved his head bald for children with cancer in Singapore, raising SG$202,010 (RM609,068) for a childhood cancer foundation.
The chief of the ride-hailing app raised the most money for Children’s Cancer Foundation’s “Hair for Hope” head-shaving event in Singapore that aims to raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer.
Grab Singapore was the top satellite partner, raising almost SG$330,000 (RM994,963).
“I’d admit that I thought twice, but raising funds for children with cancer is a far greater priority than any vanity,” Tan posted on LinkedIn.
“This cause is a deeply personal one for me. My mother-in-law was a cancer patient, and my wife, Chloe, remembers how losing her hair affected her. I am a soon-to-be father of three, and I can’t imagine the grief that these children and their families go through when they receive the diagnosis and start cancer treatment. This is my small way of standing in support with them.”
Tan said 40 drivers for Grab shaved their heads in support of the “Hair for Hope” initiative, “who spent 10 minutes shaving and then went straight back to picking up passengers!”
Children’s Cancer Foundation is a social service agency in Singapore provides psychosocial services to children with cancer and their families.
