Zaliha Claims Vape Sold Illegally ‘Without Any Control’ – Even Before Nicotine Delisting

In an Oct 5 affidavit, Dr Zaliha Mustafa claims nicotine vape had been sold widely and illegally, "without any form of control", even before she delisted liquid nicotine. But MOH and police have been seizing nicotine-containing vape liquids since 2015.

BAT’s Disposable Vape Enters Malaysian Market

Tobacco giant BAT has launched its Vuse disposable vape with up to 1,500 puffs in Malaysia, priced at RM22, after the government delisted liquid nicotine. Vuse is sold nationwide on Shopee and Lazada, and in convenience stores in Klang Valley and Penang.

An Al Jazeera documentary reveals that some vape shops in KL sell e-cigarettes to teenage non-smokers without asking for IDs. Vape sales to minors below 18 has been legal since the Health Minister removed liquid nicotine from the Poisons Act last March 31.

Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa shockingly declares that removing liquid nicotine from the Poisons Act isn't a problem, saying the legal declassification doesn't mean that MOH is saying nicotine isn't a poison, or that MOH is neglecting child health.

The Malaysian Council for Tobacco Control wants Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa to reinstate liquid nicotine into the Poisons List before the July 26 hearing of their judicial review application against the delisting, instead of fighting them in court.
