Medical, Dental Groups File Judicial Review Over Drug Price Display

Seven medical/ dental groups, plus a GP, have filed a legal challenge against the "illegal" drug price display order. Applicants say the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act cannot apply to doctors or dentists providing treatment under the Poisons Act.

The Poisons Board has unanimously rejected the government's proposal to exempt liquid nicotine from control under the Poisons Act, ahead of the April 1 planned taxation of e-cigarettes/ vape. The Health Minister holds the power to amend the Poisons List.

The vape industry supports the potential exemption of liquid nicotine from control under the Poisons Act, claiming that vape can be regulated by amending the Control of Tobacco Product Regulations. The Poisons Board met today to discuss the exemption.

MMA and MPS oppose a proposal to drop nicotine from the Poisons Act – expected to be discussed by the Poisons Board today – in order to tax vape, as this will allow the legal sale of e-cigarettes to anyone, including children, without a law in place.
