Specialist Doctor Resignations From MOH Rose 57% In Five Years

Resignations of specialist doctors from MOH rose by 57% from 229 resignations in 2019 to 359 in 2023. Last year's 359 resignations were more than double the 168 resignations in 2022 and the highest in the past five years since 2019.

An Ampang Hospital specialist says over 20 medical officers have quit so far since s/he joined the medical department last year. The main issue driving doctor resignations is manpower shortage, including lack of housemen, forcing MOs to play double roles.

Contract Doctors’ Resignation Trend Rising, MOH To Cut Permanent Appointment Offers By 31% For 2024-2025

Contract medical officer resignations dropped 32% to 924 in 2023 from 1,354 in 2022, but overall resignation trend rose 2017-2023. MOH also plans a 31% reduction in doctors' permanent appointments from 8,704 offered in 2022-2023 to over 6,000 in 2024-2025.

Over 1,100 Doctors Didn’t Report For Duty For Permanent Posts In 2023

MOH data shows the number of medical officers who didn't report for duty at their placements for permanent appointments surged 1,333% from 78 in 2022 to 1,118 in 2023. This is an 18-point jump, in just 1 year, from 2% to 20% of doctors offered permanent posts.

Contract Doctors’ Future Now Questionable, Civil Service Permanent Appointments Halted From February

The future of contract doctors is now in question, as Cabinet has decided to suspend permanent appointments in the civil service from Feb 1, 2024 (all new appointments will be contract), pending a "new" recruitment method to curb the rising pensions cost.

MOH Orders Over 1,000 Contract Doctors To Resign Before Accepting Permanent Posts

MOH has ordered over 1,000 UD43 contract medical officers in the latest cohort to resign, effective on Dec 18, when they report for duty as permanent appointments. Matters concerning contract service cannot arise after the "irrevocable" resignation notice.

I Wish To Rejoin MOH With My Permanent Post Offer That Was Given After I Left — ‘Calon Simpanan’ Medical Officer

My doctor and pharmacist colleagues and I, who were calon simpanan, quit MOH before we received permanent post offers last Oct 2. But our resignations invalidated our offers. We want to be allowed to return, since this is considered a restart in service.
