Dzulkefly Disputes Malaysia’s 24% Childhood Stunting ‘Estimate’ From International Bodies

Dr Dzul disputes Malaysia's 24% childhood stunting rate in 2024 that he describes as an estimate from a WHO-Unicef-World Bank report. He says Malaysia's NHMS 2022 reported 21.2% stunted children, down from 21.8% in 2019, expecting a continued drop in 2026.

NHMS Survey: One-Third Of Malaysian Teens Are Overweight Or Obese

The NHMS 2022 finds 1 in 3 Malaysian teens aged 13-17 is overweight/ obese, 4 in 5 are physically inactive, 2 in 3 lead sedentary lifestyles, 1 in 3 drink soft drinks daily, 1 in 10 eat fast food at least 3 days/ week, 4 in 5 don't eat enough fruits & veg.

Attempted Suicide Rate Rises To 10% Among Malaysian Teens: NHMS Survey

NHMS 2022 survey shows an increase in suicidal thought and attempted suicide rates to 13.1% and 9.5% respectively among Malaysian teens aged 13-17. Higher prevalence reported among girls – 18.5% (suicidal thought), 13.4% (attempted suicide) – than boys.

NHMS Survey: Among Malaysian Teens, Smoking Rate Falls But Vaping Prevalence Rises To 15%

According to NHMS Survey 2022, e-cigarette and vape use among Malaysian teens aged 13-17 rose from 9.8% in 2017 to 14.9% in 2022, while cigarette smoking rates in this group dropped from 13.8% to 6.2%. Teen vaping prevalence: 23.3% (male), 6.2% (female).
