Over 9,000 Patients Nationwide On PrEP As HIV Cases Rise Among MSM

More than 9,000 people in Malaysia have begun HIV PrEP and over 50,000 are on ARV treatment, Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said. The MOH is scaling up prevention, testing, and awareness programmes amid rising HIV cases among MSM.

Malaysia is expected to access long-acting cabotegravir (CAB-LA) by March 2025, offering a more reliable HIV prevention option than daily PrEP pills. CAB-LA only needs an injection every 8 weeks, after an initial 2 injections 4 weeks apart.
