MOH Projects Sabah Needs Over 4,600 Extra Doctors

Sabah needs 4,648 extra doctors to achieve MOH's target 1:400 doctor-population ratio that translates to 9,356 doctors. There are now 4,708 doctors in Sabah (including HOs, private doctors) at a 1:795 ratio. Only KK and Keningau reached MOH's target ratio.

Under SSPA, the BIW allowance is cut to a fixed RM360 monthly rate for new P&P officers appointed Dec 2024 for postings to Sabah/Sarawak/Labuan, compared to the old BIW rate of percentage of salary. UD14 medical officers face 64% disparity in BIW payments.

Only 57% Of Contract Doctors Reported For Duty For Permanent Posts In Sarawak

According to MOH data, only 432, or 57%, of 764 contract medical officers reported for duty for permanent placements in Sarawak this year as of November, indicating that 332 doctors were no-shows or rejected permanent appointment offers.

MOH: 52 Nurses Swapped Placements Via Suka Sama Suka Platform

As of Dec 3, a total of 2,972 nurses registered profiles on MOH's Suka Sama Suka (P3S) platform that launched on Oct 1, of which 52 nurses (2%) successfully exchanged placements. 1,619 nurses are awaiting matches, while 1,301 have yet to apply for a swap.

MOH Short Of Nearly 15,000 Nurses With 18% Vacancy Rate

Based on data presented to Parliament, MOH is short of 14,792 nurses, with an 18% vacancy rate for 84,286 positions. This year, as of Sept, only 99 additional nurses were recruited, leading to 69,494 nurses in service compared to 69,395 as of Dec 31, 2024.
