Khairy Jamaluddin says Malaysia’s Covid-19 vaccine rollout is on track and ahead of Thailand and the Philippines, with Malaysia only behind Singapore, Indonesia, and Cambodia, among other ASEAN countries.
According to a real-world study by the Ministry of Health on health care workers, Pfizer-BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine is 65% effective after the first dose and 95% effective three weeks after the second dose.
Only 2% (nine people) of the 426 health care workers with Covid-19 in an MOH study got infected more than 14 days after two vaccine doses, while 57% (244 people) were not vaccinated.
Public health experts say as Covid-19 is here to stay, a mitigation approach should be used to prevent severe disease and death, instead of containment through MCOs.
