KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 – A total of 2,582 dengue cases were recorded in the 48th week of the year (November 24 to November 30), rising 17.5 per cent from the previous week.
This brings the total number of dengue cases in Malaysia for 2019 so far to 119,524 as of November 30, close to the previous historic high of 120,836 reported in the whole year of 2015.
“The cumulative number of reported dengue cases from January to Nov 30 were 119,524 cases, an increase by 48,842 cases (69.1 per cent), compared to 70, 682 cases in the year 2018 during the same period,” said the Crisis Preparedness Response Centre (CPRC) in a statement uploaded to Facebook.
In the same week, two dengue deaths were also reported with total deaths due to dengue since January now reaching 164, compared to 122 during the same period last year.
During Week 48, Selangor recorded the most cases with a total of 1,475 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya at 241, and Johor at 218 cases.
CPRC also reported that 71 Chikungunya cases were reported during the said week, bringing the total number of cases since January to 764.
“The Zika Surveillance done by the National Public Health Lab and Institute of Medical Research (IMR) have screened 2,564 blood samples and 48 urine samples, received among individuals with suspected symptoms and signs of Zika. One (1) positive case od Zika was reported from January until 30th November 2019,” added CPRC.
