UPM-DKSH Partnership To Boost Veterinary Research And Education

UPM’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and DKSH have signed an MOU for collaboration between academia and industry in veterinary medicine, particularly in the pet food industry and research for the national veterinary sector, amid rising industry needs.

KUALA LUMPUR, August 1 — Universiti Putra Malaysia’s (UPM) Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has established a strategic partnership with DKSH Malaysia on the pet food industry and the national veterinary sector.

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed last Wednesday in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, aims to reinforce collaboration between academia and industry in the field of veterinary medicine, particularly in the pet food industry, as well as to advance research development that can boost progress in the national veterinary sector.

According to UPM faculty of veterinary medicine dean Prof Dr Goh Yong Meng, the public university’s collaboration with DKSH, a market expansion services provider, is an initial step toward building a more comprehensive network in the veterinary sector, in line with increasingly demanding industry needs.

He stated that there are more than 3,800 registered veterinarians nationwide.

“This collaboration opens up opportunities to establish broader partnerships, not only in the pet food sector but also in other key areas of veterinary medicine,” he was quoted as saying in a press release by UPM.

Project leader Syamira Syazuana Zaini said this collaboration served not only as an industry partnership, but also as a direct contributor of knowledge to students.

“DKSH is also offering sponsorship for final-year projects of veterinary medicine students, which includes not only financial support but also mentoring, provision of industry data, and access to the latest products and technology,” she said.

Also present were UPM wildlife health expert Assoc Prof Azlan Che’ Amat and Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS) deputy director Prof Hasliza Abu Hassim, who is also a lecturer and nutrition expert at UPM’s faculty of veterinary medicine.
