KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 — No dine-ins are allowed, and only 50 per cent of total occupancy will be allowed in malls and bazaars beginning tomorrow in Selangor’s movement control order (MCO).
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari today announced that during the MCO that has been implemented in six districts in Selangor — Gombak, Petaling, Klang, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat, and Sepang, from tomorrow till May 17 — restaurant dine-ins will not be allowed, and only takeaway or delivery services will be allowed.
Amirudin said that restaurants, petrol stations, and grocery shops are however allowed to operate until 12am every day during the two-week MCO period.
Meanwhile, for malls, bazaar raya, and night markets which are allowed to operate during this period, the number of people that will be allowed at a time can only be half the total occupancy and queue numbers should be given to everyone.
“This means that if the capacity of an area is 100 metres square feet, then the rate is only 50 per cent, which means 50 people,” Amirudin said.
Children below the age of 12 will also not be allowed in such premises, and each building manager must appoint a specific staff member to monitor if standard operating procedures (SOPs) are followed.
“We have discussed with the police. If there’s a breach in SOP, etc., we will close and shut down the operation right away.”
Meanwhile, Ramadan bazaars will not be allowed to operate beginning Saturday. However, the Menteri Besar said that the Selangor government has taken the initiative to give RM500 to all 11,000 Ramadan bazaar operators in Selangor as compensation for the closure.
Mosques are allowed to operate and Friday prayers, congregational prayers, and Tarawih prayers are permitted, according to the State Religious Authority.
No inter-district movement is allowed in these six districts and the number of people in a car will be based on the capacity of the car.
All schools in Selangor, not just schools in districts under the MCO, will be closed from tomorrow onwards.
“From tomorrow onwards, all primary schools in Selangor, daily schools, and schools under the state Islamic department will be closed, and we hope that private schools can also follow this order,” the Menteri Besar added.
Amirudin also announced that daycare centres and kindergartens are allowed to operate during the MCO period.
Public parks will be allowed to operate and recreational activities that do not involve physical contact like Zumba, aerobics, and Taichi are allowed to be held, but limited to 30 per cent of the actual capacity of a particular area.
During this MCO, social events such as weddings, engagements, receptions, birthday celebrations, etc. are also not allowed.
During his press conference, Amirudin pointed out that Selangor’s Prevention of Outbreak at Industry Sites (POIS) strategy has managed to bring down workplace-related Covid-19 cases.
“Our numbers for the past one week shows that only 10 to 15 per cent of the overall cases were from the workplace,” the Selangor Menteri Besar said.
