On March 9, Malaysia’s daily doses administered was at the peak with 29,560 doses administered, but following that, it declined by 12% to 25,986 doses on March 11.
I am not surprised that the government is willing to open up the market as there is continued pressure from private hospitals (many are owned by GLCs such as IHH, KPJ and Sime Darby), advocacy by some medical personnel, and other public figures.
In terms of absolute number of doses administered, Kuala Lumpur is the third highest among other states and federal territories, administering 20,510 doses as of March 10.
The vaccine minister says that Malaysia aims to achieve herd immunity by Feb 2022, with a target of 160,000 daily doses administered during the second and third phase of the Covid-19 vaccination programme.
