Open Letter To The Health Minister — Concerned Rakyat

In an open letter to Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad, a concerned citizen pleads for urgent intervention in ailing public hospitals. “There were desperate cries of help by fellow Malaysians who wanted to serve the rakyat, but the help never came.”

The alarm bells at various hospitals in the nation have been ringing loud for cries of help. There has been severe shortages of manpower, equipment, and resources in local hospitals.

Recent issues on shortened maternity leave and staff shortage crises at a few centres were merely the tip of the iceberg of our ailing health care system.

Most recently, health care workers from Temerloh Hospital were pushed to the breaking point, with their desperate pleas for help.

It appears that the Pahang state health department (JKNP) has failed to maintain the welfare and needs of the service, despite various appeals by the hospital.

What is even more disheartening was the apathy shown by JKN despite this issue surfacing. To date, there has been no formal press statement or acknowledgement of this crisis that has befallen, compromising health care service to the rakyat of Pahang.

No concrete solutions have been proposed or implemented, leaving health care workers in a limbo. Is the deafening silence perhaps a reflection of feeble attempts trying to deny the truth of a mismanaged fiasco?

Burnout rates are high, with patient care compromised. More staff resignations are imminent, compromising the service further without prompt intervention by the Health Ministry.

We would like to highlight that a growing number of patients rely on public hospitals for their treatment, due to an escalation in cost of living. Hence, a strained health care system directly impacts the wellbeing of the people.

Let it be known that there were desperate cries of help by fellow Malaysians who wanted to serve the rakyat, but the help never came.

We call upon the honourable health minister to intervene urgently in these various ailing hospitals before it is too late.
