MOH Opens Interim Contracts To Nearly 4,000 Doctors, Dentists, Pharmacists, Including Those Who Left Service

MOH is offering interim contracts to 3,950 doctors, dentists, and pharmacists, including 3,200 for medical officers. Eligible candidates include those still serving MOH, and those who completed max length of contract, rejected previous offers, or resigned.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced today a new recruitment drive, offering interim contracts to 3,200 medical officers, 350 dental officers, and 400 pharmacy officers, totalling 3,950 positions.

The recruitment drive advertised by the Public Services Commission (SPA) was opened last July 18 and will end on July 31, following the government’s decision for interim contracts for civil servants from last February 1 until a new permanent appointment method is determined.

“These offers are open to candidates who were appointed on contract of service, according to the fourth Ministry of Health secretary-general’s circular in 2016, whether they are currently or no longer serving in the Health Ministry,” MOH said in a statement.

The criteria for eligible candidates are as follows:

  • The candidate is still serving in the Ministry of Health;
  • The candidate has completed the maximum length of their contract service: seven years for medical officers and five years for dental and pharmacy officers;
  • The candidate ended their service not because of disciplinary issues;
  • The candidate rejected offers of a new contract extension;
  • The candidate rejected offers of a permanent appointment; or
  • The candidate resigned.

Applicants must have completed their housemanship or compulsory service, and have full registration.

Interested and eligible candidates can apply via the SPA9 portal by the July 31 deadline.

“Medical, dental, and pharmacy officers appointed on interim contract have the opportunity for permanent appointments, subject to their performance and head of department’s endorsement.”

In a statement last Monday, the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) asked what the starting salary would be for doctors offered interim contracts, noting it was unclear if the medical officers applying would carry on with their previous or current salary, or if their salary would be reset.

MMA also asked if doctors offered interim contracts would be made to relocate to a different MOH facility.

MMA further asked if contract doctors are still being hired on the three years-plus-two years-plus-two years tenure, or if this has changed.

MOH’s statement today did not address any of those questions.
