The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) welcomes the successful passage of amendments to the Medical Act. This milestone represents a significant step forward in medical specialist training in Malaysia.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad for his exemplary leadership throughout this process. His commitment to open dialogue and willingness to engage with various stakeholders has been instrumental in shaping these amendments to serve the best interests of both the medical community and the public.
The MMA commends the Members of Parliament for their foresight in supporting these amendments. Their ability to grasp the broader implications of these changes for the future of health care in Malaysia demonstrates a commitment to progress and the wellbeing of our nation.
We would like to specifically recognise the tireless efforts of key Ministry of Health (MOH) officials, particularly Dr Mohd Azman Yacob, Dr Hirman Ismail, and the Medical Planning Division and Health Policy Division, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Malaysian Qualifications Agency, and the Attorney=General’s Chambers.
Their dedication to communicating the nuances of these amendments and addressing concerns raised by various parties has been crucial in garnering support and ensuring a smooth legislative process.
These amendments mark a new chapter in Malaysian health care. The MMA believes they will contribute significantly to elevating the quality of health care in Malaysia, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining the high standards of the medical profession.
The MMA will continue to work closely with the MOH, health institutions, and other stakeholders to implement these changes effectively. Our goal remains steadfast: to contribute to a healthier Malaysia and uphold the highest standards of medical practice.
