Selgate Healthcare, UTM, Cypark Resources Plan New Private Hospital In Skudai

UTM Holdings (wholly owned by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia), Cypark Resources Bhd, and Selgate Healthcare have signed an MOU to develop and operate a new private multi-disciplinary specialist hospital in Skudai, Johor, near UTM Skudai’s Main Campus.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 – UTM Holdings Sdn Bhd (UTMH), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cypark Resources Bhd (CRB) and Selgate Healthcare Sdn Bhd (SHSB).

This tripartite MoU will facilitate a collaboration between the three parties with the purpose of developing and subsequently operating a new private hospital in Skudai, Johor.

UTMH’s core business covers property development, project management, and facilities management. UTMH is in the business of creating wealth and values for university assets and properties through sound investments, innovative solutions, and smart partnerships that can generate high income and return of investment. 

CRB is a public listed company on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd. It is a pioneer in developing and providing integrated renewable energy, construction and engineering, green technology and environmental services, and waste management and waste-to-energy. 

SHSB is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Selgate Corporation Sdn Bhd (SCSB), which is a subsidiary of Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS). SCSB is mandated by the Selangor state government to spearhead the state’s entry into the health care industry.

SHSB is a premier provider of healthcare industry through its various core businesses, namely, hospital operations, general practitioner clinic chain and Third-Party Healthcare Administrator (TPA) / Managed Care Organisation (MCO), as well as a lifestyle, e-wallet, and health care super app, SELangkah. 

The specialist hospital will be located on a five-acre land located in Skudai, Johor, which is close to UTM Skudai’s main campus. With the large campus population together with the ever-growing population, development, and progress of the surrounding areas in Skudai, Kulai, and Pulai, this hospital is set to serve the needs of the areas within Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri, its surrounding vicinity, and beyond. 

This specialist hospital will be a multi-disciplinary specialist hospital, covering over 462,128 sq ft, with approximately 177 beds and facilities to cater for inpatients, outpatients and family members. It will have food and beverage outlets and parking amenities that are targeted to be operational by 2026.

This hospital will complement UTM’s foray into the field of biomedicine as it strives towards being one of the leading public universities in Malaysia. UTMH will play an important role in UTM’s move into the future. 

The specialist hospital will be adopting renewable and energy efficient technologies, that will be in tandem on its effort in achieving Environmental, Social, and Governance goals.

The application of sustainable technologies will help the hospital provide a secure and reliable source of energy that will reduce both costs and carbon emissions.

With the tripartite arrangement between UTMH, CRB, and SHSB, it is anticipated that the planning, development, and subsequent operations of this hospital will result in success and sustainability.

Each of the three parties will have its own specific strengths in crystallising the partnership, from inception and planning, construction and development, and subsequently operation and management. 

The tripartite MOU was signed by the respective representatives of the three parties on February 9, 2023, at a ceremony held at UTM Residensi Kuala Lumpur.
