MOSTI, MOH Spent Over RM400,000 On Office Renovations

The government spent RM4 million on renovations across 14 ministries in 2020 and 2021, which included repairs, furniture replacement, and the installation of video teleconferencing systems.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 — The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) spent RM414,482 on office renovations combined in the last two years amid multiple changes in government.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad, in a written parliamentary reply yesterday, said the government spent RM4.004 million in total on renovations across 14 ministries in 2020 and 2021 which included repairs, replacement of old furniture, and the installation of video teleconferencing systems.

The highest expenditure involved the Prime Minister’s Department at RM1.07 million (26.8 per cent), followed by the Ministry of National Unity (RM589,618), Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (RM425,130), Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (RM398,604.13), and the Federal Territories Ministry (RM392,202.34).

MOSTI spent RM365,240 (9.1 per cent) over the period, while MOH used RM 49,242 (1.2 per cent).

“The maintenance of offices belonging to ministers and deputy ministers is one of the requirements in the management of facilities of a building. This is to ensure that all facilities and amenities in the offices will be continually managed in a good condition while functioning as required. 

“Therefore, the maintenance of said offices will always be carried out from time to time,” Abd Latiff said. He said this in reply to Teluk Intan MP Nga Kor Ming.
