Private Practitioners Urged To Join Covid-19 Booster Rollout

The Covid-19 booster vaccination programme will be led by private medical practitioners under ProtectHealth’s purview.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — ProtectHealth Corporation today encouraged private medical practitioners to participate in the Covid-19 booster vaccination programme to expand accessibility and reach nationwide.

According to the Ministry of Health-owned company, over 3,699 private medical practitioners (PMPs) have registered with ProtectHealth and 2,352 operate as vaccination centres (PPVs) in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) and the National Covid-19 Immunisation Adolescent Programme (PICK Remaja).

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that the Covid-19 booster programme would be expanded today to Sinovac recipients aged 60 years and older, who will be offered booster shots with Pfizer-BioNtech’s vaccine via off-label use.

Frontline workers in the health and security sectors, senior citizens aged 60 and above, and individuals with comorbidities, who were fully vaccinated with Pfizer, are also eligible to receive boosters with the same mRNA vaccine.

“The majority of the implementation of the booster dose will be undertaken by PMPs under the coordination of ProtectHealth,” ProtectHealth said in a statement.

“In its efforts to increase more PMPs to partake in this nationwide exercise, ProtectHealth strongly encourages all PMPs who are interested to participate in PICK as a PPV, to register on the ProtectHealth website

“For PMPs who have already participated in the briefings, trainings and are ready, they can notify ProtectHealth through the Vaksin Control System (VCS) which can also be accessed on the ProtectHealth website.”

As of October 20, ProtectHealth has successfully contributed 48 per cent of total coronavirus vaccinations nationwide, equivalent to 23,017,792 doses in PICK.
