KL Bar: 500 Lawyers Received Covid-19 Vaccine

The first batch of 1,908 members of the Malaysian Bar should get appointment dates by July 15, including KL and Selangor lawyers getting vaccinated from July 12-15.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 — Some 500 lawyers and chambering students from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor have received their first Covid-19 vaccine dose, the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee announced today.

Under the KL Bar Vaccine Initiative, Selangor and KL Bar members will be receiving their shots at the MITEC vaccination centre here from today until July 15, while the first batch of 1,908 members of the Malaysian Bar nationwide who registered before June 23 should get their appointment dates by Thursday.

The second batch of more than 3,000 members of the Malaysian Bar nationwide are being submitted to the authorities for further vaccination dates.

“We’ll be in MITEC until July 15, 2021, assisting the process, and hopefully we’ll have all KL and Selangor Bar members who have registered vaccinated smoothly soon,” KL Bar Committee honorary secretary Alvin Oh Seong Yew said in a statement today.

KL Bar Committee chairman Vivek Sukumaran, who is also the Bar Council Covid-19 Vaccine Coordinator, said participants of the KL Bar Vaccine Initiative will wear blue as a sign of solidarity for lawyers who died from Covid-19.

“We have lost members to this pandemic, and vaccination of everyone is of utmost importance, especially frontliners such as lawyers who are part of the justice system, who do not stop operating even during the many lockdowns,” he said.
