Malaysia Logs Record High 7,289 New Covid-19 Cases

Malaysia’s daily new Covid-19 cases on a per capita basis exceeded India on May 23.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 — Malaysia’s Covid-19 epidemic shows no signs of slowing, as an additional 7,289 Covid-19 cases were reported in the past 24 hours, a record daily high. 

The state breakdown of the 7,289 infections reported today are as follows:

  • Selangor: 2,642
  • Johor: 664
  • Kuala Lumpur: 604
  • Sarawak: 513
  • Kelantan: 425
  • Negeri Sembilan: 410
  • Penang: 380
  • Kedah: 336
  • Terengganu: 268
  • Sabah: 266
  • Melaka: 258
  • Perak: 218
  • Pahang: 211
  • Labuan: 63
  • Putrajaya: 23
  • Perlis: 8

CodeBlue reported yesterday that Malaysia’s daily new Covid-19 cases on a per capita basis exceeded India on May 23, reporting 185.30 new cases per million population on a rolling seven-day average, compared to India’s 184.99.

Malaysia also currently reports the highest daily new Covid-19 deaths on a per capita basis in ASEAN at 1.53 new fatalities per million population on May 23, compared to the Philippines’ 0.99 and Indonesia’s 0.65, the next two top countries in the region after Malaysia, on a rolling seven-day average.
