KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — Covid-19 cases reported nationwide this month until October 21 amounted to 11,733, surpassing the total 11,224 infections officially recorded in the previous eight months and five days.
The Covid-19 cases reported throughout Malaysia in just three weeks this month exceeded the total cases recorded in nearly 36 weeks previously, since the first coronavirus case officially hit the country on January 25.
Sabah reported 7,413 Covid-19 cases from October 1 to 21, comprising about 63 per cent of the country’s total 11,733 infections in that period.
Sabah also reported 59 Covid-19 deaths this month until October 21, comprising 94 per cent of the nationwide 63 coronavirus fatalities in those three weeks.
Malaysia’s 63 official Covid-19 deaths in the first three weeks of October is about half the total number of 136 coronavirus fatalities recorded in nearly 36 weeks previously from January 25 to September 30.
Health authorities say Malaysia is currently battling its third Covid-19 wave after the Sabah state election last month.
