Six New Covid-19 Cases Reported, Total 153 Active

An unlinked community case was reported in Pahang during a workplace screening.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) recorded six new Covid-19 cases today, including two local transmissions, bringing the total number of active cases to 153.

Of the two new local transmission cases, one belongs to the MV Glen cluster that was detected on August 30 aboard a ship that berthed in Port Klang, Selangor. The index patient (Patient 9,286) of this cluster is a 42-year-old foreign ship crew who tested positive for the coronavirus on August 25.

The 39-year-old wife (Patient 9,359) of Patient 9,332 from the MV Glen cluster was positively detected today. She was identified through active case detection. The couple are Malaysian.

So far, 58 people have been screened under this cluster and three tested positive. A total of 16 individuals tested negative, while 39 people are still waiting for the test results.

An unlinked local transmission was detected in Pahang during a screening at the workplace. The Malaysian asymptomatic Covid-19 patient has been admitted to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital.

According to MOH, sign-on and sign-off screening in a ship is important as it is one of the measures to monitor national border control to prevent Covid-19 infection carried by foreign nationals into the country.

The four imported cases reported today were detected among returnees from Syria and Indonesia. That brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 9,360.

Four patients were discharged today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 9,079.

A total of 153 patients are still receiving treatment in hospitals and four patients are in the intensive care unit (ICU), with three under ventilator support.

No new death from Covid-19 was reported today. Thus, the Covid-19 deaths in the country remain at 128.

MOH also announced that 12,870 people have been screened in the Kenanga, Mawar and Melur zones in Amanjaya, Kedah.

So far, only one positive Covid-19 case has been detected there. A total of 12,687 people negatively tested for the coronavirus and 182 individuals are still waiting for the test results.
