Two Unlinked Community Covid-19 Cases Reported In Kedah, Selangor

The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 10 new Covid-19 cases today: two community transmissions and eight imported cases.

KUALA LUMPUR, August 28 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported two locally transmitted Covid-19 cases today in Kedah and Selangor, whose sources of transmission are unknown, out of 10 new coronavirus cases.

One positive case was detected in Kedah during a symptomatic screening involving a Malaysian, while the other locally transmitted case was a foreigner detected in Selangor during a screening of illegal immigrant detainees at the immigration detention depot in Bukit Jalil.

MOH also reported eight imported Covid-19 cases today, involving one Malaysian and seven foreigners, out of which six returned from India, one from Indonesia, and one from the Philippines.

The six cases who returned from India were reported in Kuala Lumpur (five cases) and in Selangor (one case). The imported case from Indonesia was reported in Selangor. Another imported case was a returnee from the Philippines which was reported in Sarawak.

As of August 27, out of 106,793 individuals who arrived in Malaysia, a total of 904 positive Covid-19 cases were detected (0.85 per cent positivity rate).

The three countries with the highest number of cases were from Indonesia (295 cases), followed by Egypt (93 cases), and Singapore (70 cases).

MOH announced that Malaysia will continue to tighten public health activities carried out at the international gates to ensure that Covid-19 infection from abroad can be prevented.

All travellers arriving at the international gates will go through a health screening process and swabs will be taken for Covid-19 testing. Travellers will also be required to download the MySejahtera application and undergo a self-quarantine at a quarantine station for 14 days.

With 10 new Covid-19 cases reported today, the nation’s total reported Covid-19 cases is now 9,306.

There are currently 151 active cases, including eight patients receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) with six of them on ventilator support.

A total of 36 Covid-19 patients have recovered today, bringing the cumulative number of recovered cases to 9,030.

Malaysia’s death toll from Covid-19 remains at 125 cases as no new deaths were reported today.

Correction note at 7.35pm: The article has been amended after MOH corrected its statement to state that there were six imported Covid-19 cases from India, not seven as originally reported. MOH also reported one imported case from Indonesia, after its original statement inadvertently omitted it.
