Happy Nurses Day — Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah

Nurses represent the largest group of health care providers in Malaysia.

Every year, nurses throughout the world celebrate 12th of May, the birthday of Florence Nightingale who was the founder of contemporary nursing.

This year we celebrate the Nurses Day in challenging times during the pandemic Covid-19. Our nurses are the frontline workers working round the clock in full PPE (personal protective equipment) to nurse the infected patients in Covid-19 Wards and ICUs.

To say these are unprecedented times for everyone, particularly the nurses, is undoubtedly a gross statement.

Our health care system is looked upon highly by our counterparts, with nurses representing the largest group of health care providers.

The Ministry of Health will always treasure the nurses’ efforts and commitment and your voice to lead in our mission to excellent standard of care and steadfast professionalism.

Happy Nurses Day to all nurses in Malaysia! You will always be the backbone and heart of our health services.

Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah is the Health director-general.
