DG: WHO Impressed With Malaysia Health Ministry Facilities

WHO’s regional director for the Western Pacific region visited Malaysia in July.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 – A World Health Organization (WHO) official was impressed with several Ministry of Health (MOH) medical facilities in Malaysia, MOH director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

WHO regional director for the Western Pacific, Dr Takeshi Kasai, presented his report during WHO’s 70th Session of the Regional Committee Meeting for the Western Pacific, which is being held from October 7 to 11 in Manila. A Malaysian delegation, including Dr Noor Hisham and Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad, attended the meeting.

“His Excellency Dr Kasai visited Malaysia in July 2019 where he had the opportunity to visit several MOH facilities,” said Dr Noor Hisham in a Facebook post.

“He was thoroughly impressed by the historical Institute for Medical Research (IMR) in Jalan Pahang, the largest and state-of-the-art Klinik Kesihatan Kuala Lumpur at Jalan Fletcher, Low Risk Birthing Centre in Putrajaya, and KLIA Health Office.”

Among the items that will be on the agenda during the meeting are a special briefing on the polio and measles situation in the Western Pacific region; communicable and noncommunicable diseases; climate change, environment and health; tobacco control in the region; and many more.
