South Korean Doctor Performs Abortion On Wrong Woman

It was a case of mistaken identity.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 – South Korean police are investigating a doctor who performed an abortion by mistake.

CNN reported that a mix-up in medical charts and failure to check a patient’s identity caused the physician to abort the woman’s 6-week-old foetus.

“The doctor and nurse have acknowledged their fault,” a police official said.

The patient was supposed to receive a nutritional shot at the clinic, according to CNN.

The nurse was said to have anaesthetised the patient without confirming her identity, and the doctor had performed the abortion without checking her identity either.

The patient had been unaware of the procedure.

The police said that the doctor and nurse are currently being probed for negligence resulting in bodily harm, and the case will soon be sent to the prosecutor’s office.

South Korea moved to legalise abortion in April this year, and the court ruled that lawmakers must revise existing laws by December 31, 2020.
