Grab Helping NGO Buy Dialysis Machine

KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 — Grab Malaysia and the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) launched today a fundraising campaign to purchase a dialysis machine for poor kidney failure patients.

From April 12 until June 30 this year, Grab users can convert their GrabRewards points into donations, where every 600 points on the e-hailing app can be turned into an RM5 donation for NKF.

“We hope that bringing back this fundraising campaign alongside Grab will help to generate enough funding for our dialysis machine to support more End Stage Renal Failure (ESRF) patients. With that, we are especially grateful to be able to work closely with Grab once again,” NKF CEO Chua Hong Wee said in a statement.

The non-governmental organisation said it needs to raise RM24.9 million annually to subsidise dialysis patients at 28 NKF dialysis centres nationwide.

“Last year, the response was overwhelming. While there are many amongst us who wish to do charity but sometimes may be impeded by resources, Grab is humbled by the opportunity to be a conduit to encourage members of the community to join in and do our bit for the community,” Grab Malaysia country marketing head Iris Chang said.
